about the project
okay so basically i got tired of boring music players that all look the same right?? like where's the PERSONALITY?? so i made MEOWSY - a music player that actually has some SAUCE to it lmao
it's got everything you'd want in a music player PLUS some extra spicy features that make it actually fun to use. customizable themes, visualizers that look sick, and an equalizer that lets you make your music sound exactly how you want it. we're talking FULL control here fr fr
core features
🎵Playback That Just Works
- Play/pause, next/previous (duh lol)
- Seek through songs with smooth scrubbing
- Shuffle mode for when you can't decide ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- Repeat mode (single song or whole queue)
- Playback speed AND pitch control (chipmunk mode activated?? ⊂(◉‿◉)つ)
- Mini player bar + fullscreen player that looks CLEAN
📊Audio Effects & EQ
- 5-band equalizer (60Hz, 230Hz, 910Hz, 3.6kHz, 14kHz) - get TECHNICAL with it
- ±12 dB range on each band (boost that bass or whatever you want)
- Live preview curve so you can see what you're doing (◕‿◕)
- Built-in presets + save your own custom ones
- Rename and delete your presets whenever
- Undo/Redo for when you mess up (we've all been there ╮(╯_╰)╭)
- Smooth slider updates - no laggy nonsense
🎨Visualizer That Goes Crazy
- Real-time waveform visualizer (it MOVES with the music!! ♪┏(･o･)┛♪)
- Syncs perfectly with what you're hearing
- Looks absolutely fire in fullscreen mode
📚Library Management
- Browse by Playlists, Artists, Albums, or Songs
- Create and save custom playlists
- Favorites system (heart your faves!! (｡♥‿♥｡))
- Recent items so you can find that one song you just played
- Search with filtered results (actually works unlike some apps...)
✨The Aesthetic
- Multiple visual themes to match your vibe
- Pixel art / "Neocities-inspired" UI elements (you KNOW i had to ヾ(⌐■_■)ノ♪)
- Custom pixel font for that retro feel
- Pixel splash screen because why not
- Just generally looks better than most music apps ngl
why i built this
- Most music players are boring and look the same
- Wanted something with actual customization options
- Needed a good equalizer that doesn't suck
- Visualizers make everything better (facts)
- Wanted to make something that feels ALIVE not just functional
- Also i just really like making stuff and this seemed fun (｡◕‿◕｡)
tech stack
built with love (and caffeine) using:
- Jetpack Compose for that modern Android UI
- Kotlin (tho it really killed me the amount of errors and crashes HOLY BEAAAANS (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)
- Media3 for media playback (it's good i promise)
- Custom PlaybackService with commands for waveform + EQ (still working on this one)
- SharedPreferences for saving settings & presets
- Custom pixel font downloaded at build time
- A lot of trial and error lmao... if it crashed contact me plz (´･_･`)

current status
right now the app has most of the core features working but i'm still:
- Fixing bugs (they keep showing up istg (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)
- Adding more themes (or perhaps let the user choose their themes)
- Making the UI even prettier and more dynamic
- Optimizing performance
- Adding accessibility features (important!!)
- Testing on different devices
Known issues i'm working on:
- Some icons need better descriptions for accessibility
- Need to move hard coded strings to strings.xml for localization (i ain't doing dat any time soon, it pmo)
- Font file setup could be smoother and i'lll add more settings for theming ofc
- Lyrics placeholder needs actual implementation
- Probably some other stuff i forgot about lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- Widget for home screen
- Android Auto support maybe?, but probably i'll keep it in DMs
- Whatever other cool ideas i come up with at 3am or someone suggest to me (☞ﾟヮﾟ)☞
